Domaine Schieferkopf Riesling 2011
The Domaine Schieferkopf 2011 Riesling reflects lesser vines and sites in the same sector as the Buehl and Fels, and was bottled already in August of the following year. Fresh apple and pear offer both juicy profusion and an invigorating hint of piquant, crunchy skin. Those flavors blur just a bit in the finish, losing a bit of their aforementioned crunch, but retain admirable juiciness. Happily, nutty and stony notes at the same time add interest. It strikes me that an excellent job has been done here of corralling any material that would have compromised the striking clarity and focus – rare for 2011 – that was captured in the corresponding Buehl and Fels bottlings, and thereby generating a wine that will give lots of pleasure through at least 2016.
